چکیده
UNLABELLED Craniofacial morphology with respect to orofacial clefts has been widely studied. Objective of this study was to determine distinct craniofacial parameters in parents who have cleft children. MATERIALS AND METHODS Craniofacial anthropometric measurements (total) have been studied in 57 cleft fathers, 67 cleft mothers, 39 control males, and 38 control females. All parameters were compared between cleft parents and control (for males and females separately). RESULTS Statistical analysis showed significant differences (p<0.05) between the cleft parents and the controls for 18 measurements characterizing head, face, orbital, nasal, and oral region. CONCLUSIONS Results of this study suggest that craniofacial morphology in parents of children with clefts is distinctive from that observed in healthy individuals in Latvia population. Such data could be used in evaluation persons at risk for having cleft child, and also to define an anthropometric evaluation system for parents who have cleft children. OBJECTIVE To review the cephalometric studies investigating the craniofacial morphology of the parents of children with cleft lip and/ or palate (CL(P)). METHODS A review of the literature has been conducted using MedLine sources dated 1970-2005. The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal has been searched manually. The reference lists of all previous publications were consulted to identify any pu...

متن کاملLanguage Sample Analysis of Children With Cleft Lip And Palate: A Comparative Study
Background: Cleft palate (CP) with or without cleft lip (CL/P) are the most common craniofacial birth defects. Cleft lip and palate (CLP) can affect children’s communication skills. The present study aimed to evaluate the language production skills in regards to morphology and syntax (morphosyntactic) of children with CLP . Method: In current cross-sectional study, 58 Persian-language child...
متن کاملPrediction of liability to orofacial clefting using genetic and craniofacial data from parents.
BACKGROUND Cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL(P)) and isolated cleft palate (CP) are separate clinical entities and for both polygenic multifactorial aetiology has been proposed. Parents of children with orofacial clefting have been shown to have distinctive differences in their facial shape when compared to matched controls. OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis that genetic and morphomet...
متن کاملEvaluation of Parental Nasomaxillary Asymmetry as a Risk Factor for Development of Palatal Clefts in their Offsprings
Background and Objectives : It has been suggested previously that increased width of midfacial structure is associated with the development of palatal clefting. One of the most important heritable characteristics predisposing towards the development of orofacial clefting in an embryo is craniofacial morphology. The aim of the study was to compare nasomaxillary width of parents of children with ...
